If photographs… – by Estrella Azul

Flipping through an old family album I can’t help but reflect:
if photographs could talk, they’d tell the tales behind childhood pranks, unsupervised teenage parties, achievements, relationships, friendships, dreams; reenacting celebrations and cherished events.

However, photos never could nor will they ever be capable of talking…

They can never inform us about decisions the one gazing back at us had made, nor the consequences of their actions.

Although prompting dreams of our loved ones, our longing to have things back to normal and happier memories, sorrowfully pictures can only show certain moments captured on camera from a person’s past before they pass.

At no time can photographs show us the present, and never the future.
Certainly not what happened to him ever since he vanished so many years ago…

Based on a true story.

Life’s a stage – WebBlog maintenance

I’ve been tweaking my blog each time I had a chance in the last weeks and now I’m pretty much finished with the blog maintenance. It’s just a bit simplified though, nothing crucial.

I moved a few widgets around changing their location, added an Email Subscription widget to the sidebar on the right so anyone can subscribe to receive updates of new posts on Life’s a stage – WebBlog.

Also, I decided to add various link collections instead of leaving the mile long lists I had there before which took up way too much space and hurt my eyes :P

In the sidebar on the left I changed the name of the category where I post my writing to The Creative Writing Corner of Estrella Azul just to make it more general as I post all my fiction, poems, etc. there.

Added a new link to my #fridayflash widget so anyone can find there my Twitter list of flash fiction writers I follow (I’d also like to take this chance and ask you guys to check my list and in case I missed anyone, please let me know! Thanks!).

From my past… monthly archive is now a drop down since that list was getting a bit long as well.

And I cut my Tweet-ness! shorter to just 3 tweets because anyone interested can just click and read further.

I also added  a new description of myself, a short bio to the Estrella… that’s me :) page and since I was on a roll, also added new quotes to the Quotes page, and a few to the Harry Potter and Sex and the city quotes subpages.
And while I was there, I changed all the pages’ fonts to one that’s more legible.

Thanks for putting up with my changes of widgets around the blog, hope it wasn’t hard to find things. If you have any suggestions I might have overlooked, feel free to let me know.

Have a lovely rest of your week everyone, I’ll be posting new flash fiction on Saturday so be sure to check back :)

PS: mainly typed this so I’ll stop tweaking my blog :P

Homemade Aftershave Balm

Ever since I started posting recipes for homemade beauty products I focused on women’s products.

Until now.

The following recipe of an aftershave balm is for both women and men.
It is a soothing blend which balances the skin after shaving.

Aftershave balm – for men

Jojoba oil – 30 ml
Cathine (Cathinone) extract (available in herbal pharmacies)
essential oils of Vetiver, Bergamot and Palmarosa (1-2 drops of each).

Mix everything and leave aside for several days before use.
Apply 2-3 drops after shaking it a bit after shaving. It‘s a little oily, very good for your skin care.

Aftershave balm – for women

Jojoba oil – 30 ml
Cathine (Cathinone) extract
essential oils of Rosewood, Lavender and/or Geranium (1-2 drops of each)

Mix everything and leave aside for several days before use.
Shake it and apply on your legs, under arm pits, etc. after shaving a few drops at a time.

Recipe of the month: Orange syrup

The new Recipe of the month comes after quite a while of my initial date of publishing, but at this point I’m just glad it got published this month. So nice to be back to my regular schedule!

This is a simple recipe me and my family love, I make it at least once a month :)

page orange syrup

Orange Syrup

1 kg oranges (or other citrus fruits/ or even mixed citrus fruits)
1 kg sugar
1 liter water
1 teaspoon lemon salt

Wash the oranges, leave covered in water for at least 4-5 hours (I leave them over night cause it’s easier).
File the peels cautiously, so you don’t also file the white pith (which is sour) from under it.
Mix this peel with a teaspoon of lemon salt and leave sit.
Boil the water, add the sugar and stir until it’s melted.
Add the peel and lemon salt mix, stir well and leave sit for about 4-5 hours (or overnight).
Filter the syrup, place in bottles (you’ll get about 1,5 liter of syrup from this recipe) and keep in the fridge.
Before drinking, just mix with water in you glass to be as sweet as you like it.

You can use the filtered orange peels for flavoring when baking (there’s a large variety of desserts you can add it to), and eat the actual oranges over time.

*You can use this syrup for flavoring the salad dressing for the Baby Spinach salad with Mandarin Oranges and Red Onions

I love that absolutely nothing goes to waste! Enjoy ;)

Special… – by Estrella Azul

Freesia He buys a Freesia

and complements your hair.

Never noticing

fright in your eyes,

he persists

leaving flowers behind.

Threatening as it is

you feel unique.

Having your own

special stalker

isn’t so bad…

Though few girls

survived him before.

Acknowledging my awards Day

I was recently honored by Anne Tyler Lord, my fellow writer from the #fridayflash community, with the You Are My Sunshine Supportive Comment Award.

The purpose of it is to acknowledge those that have a blog and spend endless hours ensuring that other bloggers get feedback on their blogs by leaving comments, adding themselves as a follower or dropping by just to let you know there are people out there.

Thank you so much, Anne!

And before I forget, it seems like Anne really loves me (love ya too!) so I’m thanking her for tagging me to also receive the Lesa’s Bald Faced Liar “Creative Writer” Blogger Award.

But that’s not all, here are the rules to earn this award:

1. Thank the person who gave this to you.
2. Copy the logo and place it on your blog.
3. Link to the person who nominated you.
4. Tell up to six outrageous lies about yourself, and at least one outrageous truth.
5. Nominate seven “Creative Writers” who might have fun coming up with outrageous lies.
6. Post links to the seven blogs you nominate.
7. Leave a comment on each of the blogs letting them know you nominated them.

I think I’ll be able to cover most of these, so let’s get this party started.

Here are my outrageous lies and truth:

  1. I never learned how to fly an airplane even though my grandfather Captain Charles Nungesser and his friend Captain Francois Coli flew to America in 1927.
  2. I conducted the school choir.
  3. I had the talent of finding the single patch of concrete in the grass to hit my head against when I once fell in camp.
  4. I’m terrified of kittens with mittens .
  5. My singing career’s peak was a duet with Westlife.
  6. I once got lost in Budapest… and live here ever since.
  7. I loved my roommate’s choice of outfit on Halloween this year only she forgot her broomstick at home.

This award is spreading quickly around right now, which makes me wonder how I could possibly send the award to someone who hasn’t yet received it… and I’ve got it: I’m sending it to creative writers reading these lines and who would also like to join in the party. (Not too interesting, I know, but this will teach me to be on time from now on… everyone I love arrived to the party already.)

And now… any guesses which one is my truth? ;)
