Double digits – by Estrella Azul

It was her. The woman he has longed for ever since they have met some months ago. The woman whom he could never truly have.

He watched her for a long time, not quite knowing how to ask what was on his mind. He decided to go with straight forward and inquired.

– So… How many boyfriends have you had?

– Many. – she answered nonchalantly.

– Is that a precise number? – he winked.

She smiled at him.

– Sure.

– So a lot, huh?

– Yes.

They lay there for minutes, cuddled up. He caressed her back, fondled her shoulder-length hair as she distanced herself slightly from his embrace.

– Is it like… double digits? – he proceeded carefully.

– Yes.

– Higher than ten?

– Yes.

– Higher than fifteen?

– Yes.

– Higher than seventeen?

She paused to look at him seriously. Then slid off of the bed and picked her clothes up from around the room’s hardwood floor.

– What are you fishing for?

– I’m not sure.

– Why? Does it matter how many boyfriends I’ve had? How many men I’ve slept with? What are you really trying to ask?

– No, it doesn’t matter. I don’t know why I asked. – he answered sincerely – Never mind.

With all her clothes gathered up she headed towards the bathroom, then changed her mind. She lowered the pile onto an armchair and asked.

– Want to join me for a shower?

– Sure.

Just a one-night stand, a rebound thing… – he thought.

No, somehow it didn’t matter.

Dear Love Letter Bundle Writers,

It was not easy per se to coordinate this while being overseas from 99% of you. So…

I’d like to thank you all again for being so kind, so generous and volunteering to write love letters for the Bundle we have adopted from MoreLoveLetters! You guys rock!

As promised, here’s something pretty I made out of all the love letter photos I received. I think a collage is always nice to have and the love this particular one emanates fills me up with so much joy! <3

Love Letter Bundle for Brandis

I included this photo collage into my Capturing Love on Film Facebook album, under the “Love” caption (of course) <3

Most of my volunteers have already responded, so I thought I’d also ask the following question from everyone and anyone who happens upon this blog post:

would you be willing to help me adopt a Love Letter Bundle on a seasonal basis? (The one above was at the end of Winter, so the next adopting would then be in May, then August, and so on.)

What do you think, will you have a few hours one day every three months to write a letter to someone who will benefit greatly from receiving it?

Hope you all have a lovely rest of your week!

Love,
~ Estrella

What would you like to stop doing?

In no particular order, I’d like to stop:

  • procrastinating
  • making excuses for not creating more time for theater and opera, walks, reading, writing and everything else that I love
  • worrying about anything and everything that doesn’t have a good reason to support said worrying
  • putting myself down if some items on my to-do list don’t get crossed off
  • staying up too late – no matter what the reason
  • losing patience
  • doing things for others when it’s not my “job” to and it isn’t even appreciated
  • letting stuff pile up until not having done them drives me crazy
  • underselling myself
  • letting small, unimportant things upset me

To actually stop doing them will take a while, but I think I’m on the right track.

Your turn, what would you like to stop doing?

Lucky Seven – Untitled WIP

Lucky7 meme To my surprise, yesterday I’ve been tagged by the lovely Kemari Howell for the Lucky Seven meme. While I usually let these things pile up until I eventually forget all about them – this time I won’t ;)

Now for the rules of this meme:
1. Go to page 77 in your current manuscript
2. Go to line 7
3. Copy down the next seven lines as they are – no cheating
4. Tag 7 other authors (Done on Facebook)

Okay, as much as I’d like to say that I have a page 77 of a manuscript, I currently don’t. So I did the following: I went to my flash fiction drafts notebook, went to flash number seven, to line number seven and here are the next seven lines down as they are.

“They lay there for minutes, cuddled up. He caressed her back, played with her shoulder-length hair as she distanced herself slightly from his grasp.
– Is it like… double digits? – he proceeded.
– Yes.”

PS: Keep in mind, my notebook is small so the seven lines couldn’t be much.

We must imagine… {Paper Towns – Spoiler!}

I am constantly amazed at how certain books that I need to read find their way onto my wishlist, my to be read pile and demand being read right then and there until I can barely set them aside to go to sleep.

So glad Paper Towns, by John Green was one of them!

Revolutionizing, burnt boats and my super hero name

What do you want to revolutionize?

Will have to agree with Danielle, whose question inspired this answer, and admit that my heart has a long list of things that I would like someone else to revolutionize. I won’t go into it all now, that doesn’t get anything done anyway.

As for what I’d personally like to revolutionize? My answer to that would be: my surroundings, and I’ll do that by simply being here.

Because the truth is, my being here is a revolution in and of itself after nearly being denied staying on this earth a couple of years ago.

What boat do you need to burn? a testimony to your future

I need to burn the boat of relationships past.

It was a sturdy, reliable vessel. It brought me to where I am today even if the waters tested its solidity and efficiency through more storms than I would have cared for. We’ve weathered through them all – family disputes, failed romances, toxic friendships. It has taught me so much through the entire journey!

It also brought me to where I am today. And as far as I can tell right now, this is where I want to be. So I am lighting a match, with gratitude.

What’s your super hero name?

My superhero name is Estrella Azul.

It is my pen name, a name I chose for myself in 2007, a name I love. A name which consists of the things I love; stars and the color blue. Since I received my blue starfish pendant it also represents my love of the sea, the ocean, the beach.

My special power is love, I think, that is my default setting. As for what else I could say about it all, I think my warning label sums it up very well.

The kind of writer who…

In the latest post of the “j’s Journey” series over at Fear of Writing, j asked the readers a question: What kind of writer do you want to be?

I answered in the comment section there. I would also like to share with you here as well, since Life’s a stage is my virtual writing corner.

Someone once emailed me months after my publishing a piece of flash fiction that she was still thinking about said piece. Someone just recently noted I understand the role of my characters so well and wrote so succinctly.
Someone else commented that sometimes the most powerful things are stated with just such simplicity – like in my blog post.
Again someone else said that I write so well, he sometimes forgets that English is only one of my languages.
And again someone else told me how my heart definitely comes through loud and clear in all my writing, creative or otherwise.

I want to be the kind of writer who grows and keeps getting such great feedback – because that’s how I know I’m on the right track to becoming the writer I want to be.

How about you, what kind of writer do you want to be?

A few weeks ago, I left behind a pick-me-up love letter in an elevator. I am honored to have it included in the Love Letter Vault, and featured on MoreLoveLetters.

Here it is for everyone’s viewing pleasure “For the grey days in Romania…”
