The 12 Days of Love Letter Writing, 2017

For the last six years, More Love Letters have been putting a bow on the holiday season by rolling out 12 letter requests over a span of 12 days. I first took part in 2012, after writing my first love letter, then again each Christmas time, and along the years I chimed in with letters just by browsing the Letter Requests page.

The 12 Days of Love Letter Writing is a perfect way for one to show up this season and help people in need around the world. This year it’s taking place during December 4-15.

Each day, More Love Letters will publish a new letter request to the More Love Letters blog.

Dear Self, follow your own yellow brick road

A couple of weeks ago, after reading the March Love Letter Requests over and over, I felt at a loss for words. I couldn’t figure out what to write to each person. I nearly gave up on writing anything at all. So I sat down to watch an episode of “Pretty Little Liars.”

About halfway through, I paused it, grabbed a pen and started scribbling. I wrote a letter to the person I could identify with, to Connie. What I wrote will, I hope benefit her, as much as it helped me while I was writing out my thoughts.

I could as well have addressed it to myself. So in a way, I’ve done it, my own personal thought from February was accomplished. I’ve written myself, too, a love letter.

Letter transcript:

“Dear Self,

I know how acutely the sadness of life can be felt. I’ve felt it. I feel it myself. It has the ability to numb one’s mind, to keep one from moving along. It makes one cry themselves to sleep.

But we have to get out from there. Walk out and follow our own yellow brick road leading us to where we should be: in the present. I think that is where Dorothy was heading. From a place of sadness, through the world of her perceptions, imagination and dreams. Into the present.

Where wonderful things can happen if we allow them to unfold. We have to wake up to being right where we are supposed to be.

There truly is no place like home; the home that leaving worries of the past and future provides!

Love Letter Request for March, 2013

I have Monday and Tuesday off from work. So I couldn’t have asked for better timing; will be scripting my love letters for this month’s requests. How about you? 578740-01-main-900x695

We’ve been some kind of anxious to get these requests into your hands. We know you’ve got tons + tons of love and encouragement that you will be absolutely pouring into these letters. So have at them!

This month we are focusing in on our theme of “P.S. Stand a Little Taller.” We’ve chosen recipients of love letter bundles who could use a boost, a smile, and just some general love to push them upward and help them to keep fighting onward.

The following letter requests were requested by close friends + family of the recipients:

“Connie is a really lovely person who tends to feel the sadnesses of life in an acute way. She is a junior in college and struggling to find her place in the world and to find a way to lead a happy life. Her father died unexpectedly a few years ago and she has handled this loss with grace and determination. This semester most of her close friends are studying abroad, leaving her all alone on campus. She has a great appreciation and fondness for songs and poetry and I think a love letter telling her that she’s heading in the right direction and will find the fulfillment she seeks would really make her day.”

“My dear friend, Rachel, unexpectedly lost her husband last year.   They had only been married 11 months. Life has obviously been hard for her since his passing, and she had an enormous outpouring of love after he died, but the letters start to trickle off after the first month or two.  I know that she would love to get some love and encouragement in the mail.  We are both finishing our 4th year of medical school and we try to write each other letters as often as possible because we love some good ol’ fashioned snail mail!”

“My mom is going through a really rought time right now. She has been battling serious depression for my whole life. She is a teacher, and her students just love her and she puts everything she has to being a teacher. But she is constantly being undervalued and underappreciated. She wants to change her job and start a doggie day care and bake organic pet treats. But she lacks the support and courage to make such a huge step and I can only help her so much and she is the most amazing mom and all I want is for her to be happy again.”

Love Letter Request for January, 2013

Tiffany_Farley_0271 I just finished writing the love letters and realized I haven’t posted about this month’s requests on my blog.

Here it is, better said by the More Love Letters Team :)

Hey, hey, hey! We’ve. Missed. Your. Face!

It’s 2013 and we are all sorts of ecstatic to start the New Year off with you! Our whole crew was on a much-needed hiatus from December 14-January 7. Sorting and mailing 3,500 love letters from the 12 Days of Love Letter Writing is no easy task!

But we are back for you and we’ve packed this post to the brim with love letter requests for you!

Each month, we send out a “call for love letters” (just like this one) for an unsuspecting receiver (or in this case, receivers) in need of a little handwritten goodness. You will then have TWO WEEKS to send over a card or letter to the More Love Letters PO Box. We’ll bundle the letters and mail them all together to a lucky, lucky mailbox with an explanation note from on top. It’s simple. It takes 5 minutes. And really, what’s better than a monthly pinning of “heart to page” for someone who truly needs some love and syllables?  So gather your friends, your students, your coworkers or church group, and take on the monthly mission together!

The following letter requests were requested by close friends + family of the recipients:

“Rick and Jennifer are the proud parents of two children.  Recently, their little boy was diagnosed with leukemia. This family has been through so much in the past year, from uprooting their lives, to losing jobs – it’s been a fight to keep their heads above water. Rick and Jen are giving, loving, wonderful parents and people in their community.  They are pillars of strength but it is my hope that the MLL community can be a source of strength and love and light for Rick and Jen as their son undergoes chemotherapy and various treatments. They are a family who could use all the love and hope in the world right now. ”

“Allie graduated from college a couple years ago with a degree in English Literature. She is very introverted and lately she has been feeling very worthless and low. She is too afraid to apply to any jobs that are within her field. She wants to be a high school English teacher or special ed teacher, and eventually work to change educational policy and help better the school systems in America. She is so afraid of failure and doesn’t understand just how precious she is.She is so kind and caring. Allie is the most selfless person I know. She loves everyone she meets. She just needs a little push to show her that other people will love her and accept her just the way she is. These letters will give her the confidence and support to go make her dreams come true.”

“My cousin Michelle was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer in 2011. The doctors have given her 3 to 6 months to live and she is trying one last chemo with a poor success rate. She is doing this because she can’t bear to leave her loving husband and two boys who just want their mom to get better. I am asking for her family to be given words of encouragement, that even though they have been through so much they will be able to get through this. I know how difficult it is to see someone you love struggle to hold onto life and then slip away. I just want them to know that they aren’t alone in this struggle.”

The 12 Days of Love Letter Writing

During December 3-14, the team at More Love Letters are organizing their second “12 Days of Love Letter Writing” campaign.

And, since their first one got me writing my first love letter, here is a blog post I’m pinning to the top. I’ll update it daily during these twelve days of love letter writing to send you over to each day’s love letter request.

Happy love letter writing! <3

Love Letter Request for November, 2012

The More Love Letters team writes this so much better than I could. Here is the love letter request for November’s bundle.

tis’ the season

Dear You, Coffee beans grind– steam rises– orders mount– espresso, latte, mocha– skim, whole, double shot, soy– decaf, frappuchino– lines getting longer, patience growing shorter. The holiday madness has begun. I cannot imagine trying to keep all the orders straight and attempting to please so many customers who think the coffee world revolves around them. This season of giving will have Grinches who grumble and Mad Hatters who think you should hurry to pacify their impatience. I will not be one of them. I will order my pumpkin spice latte with a smile and say ‘thank you’. I am sending you some love to help you through the chaos. Hold on, the season will not last forever! Wishing you a wonderful holiday! Love, One of your grateful customers.

: to thank a "latte."

Last November, we invaded New York City with love letters for baristas & latte makers alike at some of the busiest coffee shops on the avenues. We had so much fun with the experience that we could not resist bringing the Barista Bundles back again. This time we are hand-delivering them, mailing them, and dropping them all over the place, and we need your help!

We are calling on you for this fun-filled holiday mission, just in time for the season of thanks & giving: Rope your love for lattes, your cravings for caffeine, your gratitude for the ones who rarely get appreciation, all into a love letter this season. Instead of grumbling like the Grinch, help us thank the ones who make our season extra foamy + sweet.

Write one, write two, or maybe three! But
please mail all love letters by November 30th to:

Barista Bundles
PO Box 2061
North Haven, CT 06473

During the second week of December, some of the More Love Letters team will be mapping out a route across Manhattan, hand-delivering letters, and documenting the deliveries throughout the day for all of you watch… Live love letter tweeting + vlogs with our lattes?! Yes, please!

Need inspiration? Check out some samples from last year.

staying local?

Perhaps, perhaps, you are already crooked into that cozy corner spot of the coffee shop in your own hometown. Be the first one to thank the hard workers at your hometown coffee shop for that extra foamy cappuccino. Send a photo + location to and we’ll add it to our map!

With crossed t’s and dotted i’s,
